Manchester City have added a final player to their squad in the summer transfer window.

Man City have signed Gianluigi Donnarumma from Paris Saint-Germain for £26 million in their final transfer of the summer window. The 26-year-old goalkeeper has signed an initial five-year deal at the Etihad Stadium, which includes the option of an additional year.

City identified Donnarumma as their ideal Ederson replacement in early August after it was revealed the Brazilian was open to leaving the club before deadline day. Ederson completed a £12m move to Fenerbahce on deadline day, with a deal for Donnarumma officially completed on Tuesday morning.

The Italian shot-stopper will face fierce competition from James Trafford for the starting spot, after he returned to City from Burnley for £27m last month. Trafford has started all three Premier League matches this season, and it will be fascinating to see which keeper is selected for the Manchester derby against Manchester United next week.

Donnarumma will wear the No.99 shirt for City, the iconic number he wore at AC Milan to signify his birth year. He was forced to change his shirt number at PSG to No.1 due to Ligue 1 squad number rules. Trafford will continue to wear the No.1 shirt that he selected when he moved to the club earlier in the summer.

Speaking after his move was completed, the goalkeeper said: “To have signed for Manchester City is such a special and proud moment for me.

“I am joining a squad packed with world-class talent and a team led by the one of the greatest managers in the history of football in Pep Guardiola. This is a club every player in world football would love to join.

“I have admired watching Manchester City for many years - so to now be able to play for the Club is a huge honour and a privilege. I cannot wait to meet my new teammates, the staff and the fans. Playing at the Etihad Stadium will be very, very special for me. I am very excited for what lies ahead and can promise that I will give absolutely everything to try and help the Club achieve even more success.”
