Aston Villa agree last-minute deal for Man Utd stars

Manchester United are close to securing a deadline-day move for out-of-favour attacker Jadon Sancho. The player will now join Unai Emery’s project at Villa Park with a medical booked.

As reported by The Athletic, Aston Villa will sign Jadon Sancho on a loan deal for a year. Manchester United were initially keen on offloading Sancho permanently, but have changed their transfer plans after failing to find suitors who are willing to match their asking price.

The 25-year-old winger spent last season on loan at Chelsea. The Blues could have exercised their right to buy at the end of the loan, but decided not to proceed with Sancho’s permanent transfer to Stamford Bridge. Chelsea instead paid Manchester United £5 million to get themselves out of the obligation to buy contract. Enzo Maresca could have landed the out-of-favour Englishman for £25 million.

Not just one transfer as Villa sign former Red Devil’s defender too

Aston Villa needed to act after a winless start PL campaign and have also inked free-agent ex Man United centre back Victor Lindelof to a 2 year contract.

Villa’s deal for the forward they badly need will be subsidised by United as they will be paying 80% of Sancho’s wages at Villa Park during his year-long loan stint with no loan fee. The negotiations are nearing a conclusion with personal terms with the player already agreed. It remains to be seen if Aston Villa will include any clause to buy at the end of the loan tenure. Interestingly, Sancho has entered the final twelve months of his Old Trafford contract.

However, the Red Devils do reserve the right to extend it by a year which they most likely will in order to extract the maximum value from the sale of the English attacker.

Could Emi Martinez head the other way Man Utd

Manchester United have also been monitoring the situation around Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez. The shotstopper has been subject to interest from the Red Devils throughout the summer window. However, these two deals are not being clubbed together during negotiations, and the Red Devils are pursuing the Argentine in separate talks.

According to the latest reports, United have landed Senne Lammens from Royal Antwerp for £18.1m plus add-ons so the deal for Martinez seems unlikely now.

United also have moved on Antony in a permanent deal with Real Betis meaning they could afford the much needed new goalkeeper Lammens.

The final formalities allow Unai Emery to add a much-needed attacker to his arsenal. The manager lost Leon Bailey this summer, along with Marcus Rashford who had arrived on loan from Manchester United in the second half of last season. Sancho had not been expected to follow the path that his Old Trafford teammate took but needs must for Villa. Rashford has since earned himself a spell at Barcelona following impressive performances for the Villans last season.

The addition of Jadon Sancho could work wonders for Aston Villa who have struggled to churn out the right results this season. As mentioned in three Premier League fixtures, Unai Emery’s side have failed to register a single victory – drawing one game and losing two, including Sunday evening’s Villa Park 0-3 drubbing at the hands of Crystal Palace
