Anthony Gordon has hailed new Liverpool forward Alexander Isak as a "great person and teammate" after he finally got his dream move to Anfield on deadline day.

Isak's £125million move from Newcastle United to Liverpool was confirmed at 9:30pm on Monday night, two-and-a-half hours after the transfer window had closed. But the deal sheet had been submitted in time, allowing the Reds more time to announce the signing and get Isak signed.

The Sweden international has penned a six-year contract at the Reds and could make his debut when they make the trip to Burnley on Sunday, September 14. Isak then has the chance to feature at home for the first time, as Atletico Madrid are the visitors three days later.

During his time at Newcastle, Isak scored 62 times in 109 appearances and helped the Magpies win the Carabao Cup back in March, netting in the final against Liverpool.

And his ex-teammate Gordon - who has long been linked with his own move to Liverpool - has since issued a message to Isak following his departure from St James' Park.

Gordon, who has 570,000 followers, said on Instagram: "Regardless of the situation & what's gone on. It's been a pleasure to play with you. One of the best chemistries I've had on the pitch and more importantly a great person and teammate. I wish you nothing but the best brother," alongside a red love heart emoji.

The former Everton man became the second current Newcastle player to react to Isak's move to Liverpool on social media. Sven Botman was the first, as the Netherlands centre-back wished him all the best at the Reds.

Botman said: "What started off as teammates growed in one of my rare best friendships. No more words needed brother, all the best in your next chapter, alongside a red love heart emoji. @alex_isak."

Isak, meanwhile, expressed his delight after managing to secure his switch to Liverpool.

He told Liverpoolfc.com: "I feel amazing. It's been a long journey to get here. But I'm super-happy to be a part of this team, this club and everything it stands for. It's something I’m proud of and I'm really looking forward to it.

"I'm just happy it's done and that I can get back to work. I'm looking forward to seeing my teammates and the fans, and getting back out there. I think I have a lot to give, I think I have a lot to improve. I’m a striker but I always want to give as much as possible to the team, mainly goals but much more than that as well.

"I want to win everything. Yeah, [as simple as that]."

Isak continued: "Me getting the chance to be a part of this, I want to create history. I want to win trophies. That's ultimately the biggest motivation for me and I feel like this is the perfect place for me to grow even further and to take my game to the next level and help the team as well.

"I feel like this is the next step for me in my career. I’m super-happy that I’ve been given this chance and I'm very motivated to do something well with it."
