Paul Joyce says Liverpool have inserted two interesting clauses in the deal to take Harvey Elliott to Aston Villa

Harvey Elliott’s transfer to Aston Villa was one of the more unexpected Liverpool moves on deadline day.

Even though the Englishman was getting linked with a move away from Anfield for most of the summer, nobody expected the Villans to come in for him at the last hour.

RB Leipzig were the team expected to prise Elliott away from his boyhood club, but in the end, he opted to stay in England.

And, even though the fee will only be worth £35million after a season-long loan in the 2025-26 campaign, it gives the 22-year-old the chance to prove his worth and get some regular game time for a top-flight team.

Liverpool have included a buy-back and sell-on clause in the deal for Harvey Elliott

As mentioned, the eventual fee that Liverpool will be receiving is said to be worth around £35million.

The attacking midfielder has a whole host of Premier League experience to his name, with Jurgen Klopp seeing him as the next big thing.

Although Arne Slot clearly didn’t have the same vision for the youngster as the German did, when called upon, he still put in a solid shift.

And now, as per a report from Paul Joyce via his personal X account, The Times journalist has revealed some new details about Elliott’s Anfield exit.

Liverpool have pulled a blinder with their deals for Harvey Elliott and Jarell Quansah

Although the exits of Elliott and Jarell Quansah will no doubt sting for a while, the fact that Liverpool included buy-back clauses in both deals is nothing short of sensational.

Both players have high ceilings, but due to the amount of talent that the Reds have among their ranks at the moment, the best thing for them both was to exit Anfield.

Of course, since both regularly featured off the bench last term, new arrivals needed to be brought in, and that is exactly what Liverpool have done.

To make things even sweeter, even if Liverpool don’t want to re-sign Elliott, the fact they also have a sell-on clause means that, no matter what happens, they’ll benefit from the 22-year-old’s next move.

Richard Hughes’ 2025-26 summer transfer window has been nothing short of sensational, and if all their players manage to generate some chemistry and gel with one another, Slot could be onto a winner.
