“Most difficult of career” – Director says Manchester United deadline talks toughest ever

On deadline day, Antony left Manchester United and completed a permanent move to Real Betis. The winger spent the second half of last season on loan with the Spanish club, and his performances convinced them to buy him in the summer window.

The La Liga side wanted a loan deal and were confident of agreeing terms with the Red Devils United towards the end of the window. That didn’t happen and they eventually agreed to buy him from Manchester United.

Last week, Manchester United agreed to sell Antony for €25m, keeping 50% profit from a future deal. The player’s camp, however, wanted a €6m pay off.

On Monday, [ABC Sevilla reported](https://sportwitness.co.uk/manchester-united-resolve-differences-with-agent-for-exit-red-devils-player-travelling-soon-for-medical/) Ruben Amorim’s side had resolved their differences with his agent and this allowed him to seal a move to Real Betis. Their sporting director, Manu Fajardo, has spoken to the local media, and [El Desmarque](https://www.eldesmarque.com/futbol/real-betis/20250902/manu-fajardo-fichaje-antony-balance-mercado_300747402.html) have relayed his comments.

The official said the operation to bring the Brazil international to the Andalusian club was the most difficult of his management career because of Manchester United. He also added the 25-year-old made an effort, which was also crucial.

_“The truth is that despite my age, I’m young, I’ve been in the profession for 15 years, and it’s been the most difficult signing I’ve made in my career because we had to negotiate with a very big club,”_ he said.

_“Not long ago, they paid €100m for him; he had interest from many clubs worldwide, but with skill, sacrifice, and a lot of enthusiasm, we were able to do it.”_

The director says the South American’s signing has to be manoeuvred through Real Betis’ financial reality.

_“The club hasn’t gone into debt at all. It’s generating capital gains, growing athletically, and with the capital increase. We always said that if players like Antony came to Betis, it would always be with the club’s financial stability as a priority, and that’s how it has been,”_ Fajardo explained.
