Window shut, season starts now and international break

Damian 02 September 2025

When Jacob Ramsey left, someone somewhere posted something about supporters maybe not knowing all the details. I don't know who it was and it might never have happened, but I think it did.

I write this to say, selling Ramsey was good for the Club and I suspect needed and also because we probably know very little about why Martinez nearly left for Manchester United yesterday or if he actually really did come close. I suspect there was interest and that was why Emery left him out for Palace, but we don't know all the details.

And everything above was written to say that Emi Martinez is an Aston Villa player and that should be enough. Actions speak louder than words, so lets see how he acts over the next few weeks.

**Harvey Elliott**, **Victor Lindelöf** and **Jadon Sancho** are also now Aston Villa players and even though I'm not a fan of making too many changes, I think it was needed and I think that says a lot about the players we have as much as it does for the players that have come in.

Elliott plays on the right, Sancho on the left and Lindelöf I suspect could surprise a few over the next few months. We now have legitimate options on both sides of the pitch and that isn't to say that Ramsey or Rogers or Malen are not options, but in all three cases, I think they would all rather not play wide.

So it's turned out an okay transfer window after all and I hope it has the desired effect on the team and addresses the problem we've had this season and last season ... scoring goals!

But we don't get to see that for a while because we have an international break. Another waste of time and another reason why this game is becoming tough to follow. But maybe we have some renewed optimism. I for one am looking forward to seeing Sancho and Elliott start.

It's going to be fun.
