GRIMSBY escaped with a £10,000 fine for fielding an ineligible player against Man Utd in the Carabao Cup. Clarke Oduor came on as a substitute in the famous cup win, and ironically, the midfielder was the only player who missed his penalty.

Town submitted the registration of Clarke Oduor at 12:01 pm on the day before the fixture, i.e. shortly after the 12:00 pm deadline. As the Town self-reported the issue to the EFL, they have received a £10,000 fine. It could have been worse - in the 2021 EFL Trophy, West Ham were expelled for fielding a suspended player against Gillingham, and Colchester progressed as a result.

In other news, Town made two Transfer Deadline Day loan signings - right back Neo Eccleston (Huddersfield Town), and 'keeper Charlie Casper (Burnley); both join the Mariners until the end of the season.
