”Bigger fee” – FIFA Agent explains why Premier League star snubbed Leeds United move

After the last week of this transfer window, Leeds United fans will not be pleased with ownership. Many were expecting new faces, as Daniel Farke had hinted at over the past week.

Many names were considered by the Whites, but they still ended up with zero signings. ”Failed transfer” could be the them of Leeds’ window this summer – the most famous one being the Igor Paixao deal. Many thought the deal had been sealed, but the Brazilian changed his mind at the last minute as he chose to join Marseille instead.

The most frustrating one could be what happened on deadline day. After exhausting their list of targets, Leeds switched their attention to Fulham winger Harry Wilson. There was a deal on the table, with a permanent switch on the cards. Unfortunately the deal collapsed before the deadline with Wilson staying in London.

Another big move was Facundo Buonanotte. Leeds held talks with Brighton and convinced them to loan out the youngster. The Whites were so confident of a deal that they booked a flight for the player. Then in a quick turn of events, the flight was cancelled, and Chelsea swooped in to sign him on loan.

Former Leeds star, and current FIFA agent Jon Newsome thinks money played a big part in the Argentine snubbing a move to West Yorkshire:

“Logistics, does he want to move up to Leeds? Can he still stay with his family in London, wherever he is, the south coast. There’s two ways of thinking about it – are you going to play every week at Chelsea?

“Very unlikely. Are you going to play every week at Leeds? That is why you would be signed. If you go to Chelsea, if you only play 15 games, does it put two or three years more on your career?” Newsome said.

“It depends on the agent too, if the agent is getting a bigger fee to go to Chelsea, there are agents who would send him to Chelsea because they’d get more money,”

According to reports, Leeds could consider a move for free agent midfielder Josh Brownhill.
