Preston boss explains Harrison Armstrong worry before deadline day move from Everton

Paul Heckingbottom, the Preston manager, has been speaking about Harrison Armstrong’s deadline day loan move from Everton.

Not many incomings occurred before the deadline at Everton, but there were a few who headed the opposite way.

Youssef Chermiti was sold to Rangers, Tyler Onyango joined Stockport County on loan, and Armstrong also completed his second loan away from the Toffees.

Fans were baffled at Armstrong being loaned out, as after his early performances this season for Everton, the midfielder could have played a role.

Nevertheless, David Moyes clearly thinks this is the best thing for the 18-year-old, but Heckingbottom was uncertain about something on the final day of the transfer window.

Preston boss Paul Heckingbottom was worried that Everton would keep Harrison Armstrong

The midfielder was impressing fans, and at such a young age, Moyes sees Armstrong as Everton’s future.

But the Scotsman knows more development is needed, and it was a late confirmation for the youngster to join the Lilywhites on loan.

Although the loan went through smoothly, the Preston manager was slightly worried that the Blues would end up retaining their exciting youngster.

“Harrison is a special talent who we’re really excited to be bringing on board,” Heckingbottom said.

“There were a number of clubs after him, and he’s been doing so well that we weren’t sure if Everton would keep him around for the Premier League season.

“It’s great for us that they’ve decided this is the best place for him to be right now. He’s got real quality and I’m looking forward to working with him.”
