'Turned down' - Liverpool 'offered' player to Palace in failed Guehi deal

Liverpool reportedly offered Joe Gomez to Crystal Palace on deadline day in an attempt to help Marc Guehi's proposed move to Anfield.

The Reds have enjoyed a barnstorming summer transfer window, completing the period with the £130m capture of Alexander Isak from Newcastle United.

The super Swede refused to play for the Magpies at the start of the 2025-26 campaign and ultimately forced his way out of St James' Park.

Another eye-catching addition to the Liverpool attack, Florian Wirtz arrived on Merseyside earlier in the summer from Bayer Leverkusen.

After beating Arsenal 1-0 at Anfield on Sunday afternoon, Arne Slot's men are the only Premier League side who still have their 100% record in tact.

Liverpool offer Gomez to Palace on deadline day?

According to journalist Chris Williams, Liverpool were looking to come up with a smart solution to the Guehi transfer saga on deadline day.

The 25-year-old was on Merseyside completing a medical with the Reds ahead of a £35m move, a deal dependent on the Eagles finding a replacement.

Oliver Glasner's men were unable to secure the services of Brighton & Hove Albion defender Igor Julio, who eventually switched to West Ham United.

In an attempt to fulfil the needs of Palace, Liverpool supposedly offered centre-back Gomez to the Selhurst Park club on loan with an option to buy.

The London side were not a fan of the proposal from the Reds, meaning that Guehi is now set to stay put at Palace until January at the earliest.

Glasner gets his way

It appears as if Crystal Palace manager Glasner was a major factor in Guehi failing to seal a move to the Premier League champions.

There have been rumblings that the former Eintracht Frankfurt boss threatened to leave his position at Selhurst Park if the Eagles were left without the England international or an adequate replacement.

Glasner has got his wish for now, although it is likely that Liverpool come back into the picture for the signature of Guehi in the New Year.
