Leeds United promotion hero brutally exiled from squad after transfer disaster shock

Leeds United had a nightmarish end to the summer transfer window. They failed to do any deals on deadline day and consequently let down Daniel Farke, who wanted to bring in two more attackers before the window closed on Monday evening.

The Whites signed 10 new players and spent more than £100m since winning promotion to the Premier League at the end of last season. They have looked defensively solid and compact in midfield, but it has been clear that they are short in the final third and needed help from the market.

Leeds made a late dash to sign Wales winger Harry Wilson in the final hours of the transfer window, but Fulham backed out of a deal to sell him at the last minute, and the Yorkshire giants were left empty-handed.

Farke’s side were also heavily linked with several players throughout the window, particularly Kalvin Phillips, and he is now facing an uncertain future at Manchester City after failing to secure a move out of the Etihad.

Leeds United-linked Kalvin Phillips set to be exiled from the Man City squad

The former Leeds midfielder was heavily linked with a return to Elland Road, and he would have more than welcomed a chance to wear the white shirt again.

However, Daniel Farke recruited heavily in midfield early in the window, and the Leeds manager showed no inclination to take him back to Elland Road.

Manchester City have been desperate to move him on, but the transfer window is closed, and he is still contracted to the Etihad outfit.

According to The Manchester Evening News, Phillips is now facing months without any football and is exiled from the rest of the Manchester City squad.

He is not part of Pep Guardiola’s plans, and the Manchester City manager has no plans to reintegrate the midfielder he has been trying to sell since last summer.

A move to Turkey and Saudi Arabia could rescue him, but as things stand, he has no offers from clubs in either country.

Phillips will now have to wait until the winter transfer window to find an exit route out of the Etihad and rekindle his career at a new club.
