Alexander Isak's doomed attempt to build Newcastle bridges as striker breaks silence

Isak went on strike throughout the summer to force the Liverpool move, which finally went through late on deadline day in a British record transfer deal.

Throughout the saga, angry [Newcastle](https://www.thenorthernecho.co.uk/sport/football/newcastleunited/) fans have made their feelings known on Isak, with the supporters singing an X-rated chant at Elland Road during the 0-0 draw with Leeds United on Saturday night.

Despite that strength of feeling and Isak's conduct throughout the summer, the striker has now taken to social media and posted a farewell message to the Magpies.

He wrote: "I want to express my gratitude to my teammates, the staff, and above all, the city of Newcastle and all the amazing supporters for the three unforgettable years we shared together.

"Together, we have written history and brought the club to the place where it truly belongs. It has been an honour to be part of the journey from reaching the Champions League to winning the first trophy in over 70 years.

"Forever grateful. Thank you, Newcastle."

While Isak became a Newcastle hero when he scored at Wembley in last season's Carabao Cup final win, he completely soured his relationship with the club through his actions in the last few weeks.

As a result, Newcastle opted to confirm his exit on Monday evening with the briefest of two-line statements that did not include any thanks for his time on Tyneside.

After completing his Liverpool move, Isak said: "I feel amazing. It’s been a long journey to get here. But I’m super-happy to be a part of this team, this club and everything it stands for. It’s something I’m proud of and I’m really looking forward to it.

"I’m just happy it’s done and that I can get back to work. I’m looking forward to seeing my team-mates and the fans, and getting back out there.”
