Melissa Reddy shares what Man Utd coaches really thought about Rasmus Hojlund after exit…

Manchester United coaches felt that Rasmus Hojlund's 'biggest problem' at Old Trafford was that he was too desperate to do well, according to journalist Melissa Reddy.

The striker completed a move to Italian champions Napoli on deadline day after two seasons with the Red Devils.

Hopes were high for Hojlund when he joined United in a deal worth up to £72m in 2023 following an impressive season with Atalanta, but despite scoring 16 goals in 43 appearances in all competitions as a 20-and-21-year-old, Ruben Amorim decided he wanted a new first-choice striker ahead of the current campaign.

When the Red Devils completed the £74m signing of Benjamin Sesko freom RB Leipzig in August, the writing was on the wall for Hojlund, and he sealed a move to Napoli on Monday.

The Dane has joined on a season-long loan deal, but Napoli are obliged to pay £38m next summer to bring him to the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium on a permanent basis next summer.

According to former Sky Sports journalist Reddy on X, United's coaches believe Hojlund put himself under too much pressure to succeed at Old Trafford, and would rush his decision-making as a result, having often been starved of confidence and service.

As Reddy explains, despite his spell at United ending in disappointing fashion, Hojlund gave his all throughout and the majority of people should be willing to wish him well back in Serie A.

Meanwhile, United's new-look strike-force of Sesko, Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo are yet to start together this season, and Amorim will be hoping he can play all three together after the international break when the Red Devils come up against arch-rivals Manchester City at the Etihad on September 14.
