Roy Keane has always spoken his mind and he made sure he was heard when discussing Manchester United's decision to sign Sergio Reguilon on transfer deadline day

Roy Keane's scathing assessment of Manchester United's deadline day capture of Sergio Reguilon back in 2023 was certainly vindicated.
The former Tottenham left-back arrived at Old Trafford on loan two years ago as then-boss Erik ten Hag desperately needed cover following injuries to Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia. Despite showing early promise in north London, Reguilon had fallen out of favour under Ange Postecoglou and was previously loaned to Atletico Madrid.
His temporary move to United materialised after the Red Devils failed in their pursuit of primary target Marc Cucurella. Reguilon, who became a free agent following his Spurs release this summer, was a player Keane clearly wasn't impressed with during a fiery exchange with Jamie Redknapp on Sky Sports, reports the Mirror.
Setting out his stance, the former United skipper declared: "Tottenham have got so many average players. We talk about the pressure Spurs are under to get in the top four but if you take [Harry] Kane and Son [Heung-Min] out of that team they are average."
When Redknapp insisted Reguilon was a quality left-back, Keane fired back: "Is that why Real Madrid let him go? Why did Real Madrid let him go?" The ex-Liverpool captain stood firm on his view as he hit back: "Does that matter? Just because Real Madrid let him go doesn't make him a good player? He's a fantastic left-back."
Despite arriving as emergency cover, Reguilon struggled to make an impact and featured in only 12 matches for the Red Devils. Ten Hag chose to alternate Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Diogo Dalot on the left side for the majority of the campaign instead.

With two years having passed since Reguilon's signing, United were once more busy on transfer deadline day as they announced the acquisition of goalkeeper Senne Lammens for £18.2million plus add-ons. The Belgian shot-stopper was brought in from Royal Antwerp, with Ruben Amorim eager to strengthen his options in goal after early-season mistakes from Altay Bayindir and Andre Onana.
The 23-year-old travelled to Manchester on Monday to finalise the move as he signed a five-year contract with the Premier League club. Following his official unveiling, Lammens said: "I'm extremely proud to be joining Manchester United, it's a real dream come true.
"The past few years have been an amazing journey, it's now ended in an incredible destination and hopefully the beginning of something special. You can feel the positive atmosphere that is being created here, and I know that I can make a real impact at the club in the coming years.

"I cannot wait to get to know my team-mates and begin working with Ruben and the coaching staff. This is the perfect place to keep developing, grow together with this exciting team and achieve my career objectives."
Whilst it's still uncertain whether Lammens will kick off his United career as the club's first-choice goalkeeper, Amorim faces a significant decision ahead of the Manchester derby following the current international break.
