Brazil manager Carlo Ancelotti has left all of his former Real Madrid players at home ahead of their World Cup qualifier against Chile at the Maracana on Thursday.
Having already sealed their place at the finals next summer, this is a dead rubber for Brazil, and Ancelotti has seemingly done his former club a favour, by allowing Vinicius Junior, Rodrygo, Eder Militao and Endrick to have the week off, and stay in Madrid.
Barcelona winger Raphinha has not been afforded the same privilege, and he is the only La Liga player in a squad that is once more dominated by Premier League talent.
New Manchester United man Matheus Cunha will not be present though, after the injury he sustained in the win over Burnley at the weekend, so Joao Pedro and Richarlison are both set to start, following good form in England.
Neymar has been playing regular football back at Santos, after his injury nightmare in Saudi Arabia, but Ancelotti has decided against calling him up once again here.
The Selecao’s all-time record goalscorer is one of a number of players overlooked, as Danilo, Lucas Beraldo, Carlos Augusto, Gerson, Ederson and Antony have all been left out from the previous squad.
Former Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson Moraes, who has just completed a move to Fenerbahce, is also not part of the squad, after being left out of City’s opening three games, ahead of his transfer to Turkey.
Alisson will therefore start between the sticks, but he will have a slightly inexperienced defence in front him, apart from Marquinhos, who could win his 100th cap here.
The other seven defenders in the squad have just 29 caps between them though, 14 of which belong to Gabriel Magalhaes, who is expected to partner Marquinhos in the centre.
Brazil possible starting lineup:
Alisson; Vanderson, Marquinhos, Gabriel, Caio Henrique; Bruno Guimaraes, Casemiro; Raphinha, Joao Pedro, Estevao; Richarlison
