Schroder continues to shine for undefeated Germany in FIBA EuroBasket

If Dennis Schroder’s performance in this summer’s FIBA EuroBasket is any indication of what he can bring to the Sacramento Kings, the Beam Team could be in line for a boost in the backcourt this season.

Schroder has been the driving force behind Germany’s 4-0 start to EuroBasket’s Group Play stage, with Wednesday morning’s matchup against Finland set to determine who wins Group B and moves onto the knockout stage.

Germany improved to 4-0 over the weekend thanks to a dominant 120-57 win over Great Britain.

Dennis Schroder, who signed a multi-year deal with the Sacramento Kings in free agency in July, scored 19 points to go along with five assists and one steal while shooting eight-of-15 from the field and two-of-four from long distance over 24 minutes.

Schroder has been a force for Germany, averaging 22.3 points (fifth-best average among all players), 2.5 rebounds, 5.5 assists (eighth-best among all players), and 1.3 steals per game on 53 percent shooting from the field and 43 percent from the three-point line during his four appearances thus far.

With the likes of Dennis Schroder, Franz Wagner, and Daniel Theis leading the way, Germany will look to put the finishing touches on a 5-0 run in group play — but Lauri Markkanen and Finland (3-1) are looking to knock off the Germans to claim Group B.

Dennis Schroder and Germany will be in action at 10:30 am PT on Wednesday, September 3rd. You can watch FIBA EuroBasket here.

Brett Siegel, NBA Reporter for Clutch Points, joined The Allen Stiles Show to discuss the latest with restricted free agent Jonathan Kuminga, what the Sacramento Kings could potentially trade Devin Carter for, and plenty more.

Golden State Warriors forward Kuminga has been the highlight of this offseason, particularly from Sacramento’s perspective as they’ve had rumored interest in a sign-and-trade for the 22-year-old.

Siegel said there’s minimal change on that front, as negotiations continue to center around his current situation.

Russell Westbrook has remained in the recent rumor mill, though, with Siegel saying that Sacramento remains the only team that seems interested in the former MVP.

But the Kings’ general manager, Scott Perry, would need to clear space in order to do so. While moving Malik Monk seems to have been considered, what about second-year guard Devin Carter? Where does Dennis Schroder fit in?

“I would venture to say a one-second round pick [for Carter],” Siegel said of a potential deal. “Maybe even a protected second-round pick.”

At that point, as they mention in the conversation, it may be in Sacramento’s best interest to see what the former lottery pick can provide when fully healthy.

Carter has still hardly gotten his footing at the NBA level after being injured and hindered for most of his first year. If Perry’s set on Westbrook, he may need to get creative.
