Six winners and four losers from Man Utd transfer, window including Bryan Mbeumo and Kobbie Mainoo

The transfer window has finally shut after a busy summer for Manchester United.

After a turbulent first six months under Ruben Amorim, Manchester United signed five players during the summer transfer window.

Ineos needed to back Amorim in the transfer market as they prioritised the attacking department to bring in fresh faces like Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko.

It has been a slow start to the 2025/26 season for United, winning one of their first four games of the season, but results should improve after the September international once the recent recruits settle in.

United also said goodbye to many players, such as Alejandro Garnacho and Antony, while Marcus Rashford and others left on loan.

Without further ado, United In Focus takes a look at the winners and losers from United’s transfer window.

Winners from Manchester United’s transfer window

Senne Lammens: After enjoying a rise to prominence at Royal Antwerp in Belgium, Senne Lammens has made a giant leap in his career by signing for United. The 23-year-old arrives at Old Trafford in a position that has raised unwanted questions in the opening weeks of the season, forcing United’s hand to act in the transfer market. Lammens lacks experience, but United believe this data-driven transfer is one fans will reflect on positively for years to come.

Marcus Rashford: After returning from a loan spell at Aston Villa, Marcus Rashford dreamed of a move to Barcelona. A deal materialised that will allow Rashford to compete in the Champions League again this season. United will hope to secure a transfer fee for the England international next summer.

More United News

Bryan Mbeumo: Brentford’s former talisman has proven himself in the Premier League for years, so it was about time Mbeumo secured a move to one of the big clubs. United have a star on their hands who is ready to make Old Trafford his home.

Antony: There is no denying that Antony flopped at United, but Real Betis wanted him back after an impressive stint in La Liga during the second half of last season. Antony can be deemed a winner because he always wanted Real Betis and that move got across the line on deadline day.

Matheus Cunha: Unlike Mbeumo, Cunha has experienced life at big clubs in the past, having played for Atletico Madrid. Now he is playing for the biggest club in the world and will be doing his utmost to bring the team back to the top. It’s been a long time, but players like Cunha will help the Red Devils reach their objectives.

Benjamin Sesko: United were in desperate need of a new striker this summer, after missing out on Liam Delap, who signed for Chelsea. Sesko emerged as the primary target after establishing himself in the Bundesliga at RB Leipzig. The 22-year-old now has a chance to prove himself at the highest level.

Losers from the transfer window

Andre Onana: Two questionable seasons as United’s number one meant Andre Onana was in a vulnerable position this summer. Despite being linked with moves away from the club, the Cameroon international stayed, and he has now lost his place in the team. Altay Bayindir has started more games this season, and United completed the signing of Lammens on deadline day to make matters worse.

Emiliano Martinez: An emotional Emiliano Martinez waved goodbye to the Aston Villa faithful at the end of last season, but he remains at Villa Park after pushing for a move to United. The World Cup winner was overlooked for Lammens, who United hope will have a bright future in the game. Martinez made his feelings clear and has yet to feature for Villa since the beginning of the new season.

Rasmus Hojlund: Securing a move to Serie A champions Napoli should excite Rasmus Hojlund, but the Denmark international wanted to stay and fight for his place at United. That changed when Amorim left the Danish striker out of his squad for the first four games of the season. It didn’t work out for Hojlund at Old Trafford, but United fans will wish him well in the future.

Kobbie Mainoo: While it’s a relief for United fans that Kobbie Mainoo remains, the 20-year-old will be concerned about his place in the team under Amorim. The United head coach believes the young midfielder is ‘fighting’ with Bruno Fernandes for a place in the team, which is likely to limit his game time. That is not ideal during a World Cup, which explains why Mainoo wanted to go out on loan. Hopefully it all works out and the United academy graduate can work his way into Amorim’s starting XI.
