Brentford’s interest in PSV Eindhoven midfielder Joey Veerman ran until the final minutes of the summer transfer window on deadline day, but the Dutch side could not be swayed.
That’s [according to Eindhovens Dagblad](https://www.ed.nl/psv/joey-veerman-ziet-transfer-in-het-water-vallen-loopt-psv-nu-risico-of-is-het-juist-een-gouden-zet~ad83b3fd/), who report that a deal didn’t happen but the ‘tension remained high’ at PSV until the last minute.
Brentford made their first bid for the midfielder over the weekend, and it was swiftly rejected, with PSV uninterested in selling late in the window.
ED explain that Brentford offered the Dutch champions €27m and a few bonuses that would have generated a few million Euros. The belief was that they could be tempted as Veerman is out of contract next summer and they risk losing him on a free in a year’s time.
They weighed up the risks and rewards and felt that there were more of the latter if they kept Veerman this summer. That’s despite him making it clear that he wanted to join Brentford this summer.
Tension at the Dutch club remained high until the very last moment on Monday evening. They were waiting to see if Brentford would return with an increased offer at some point.
Those in charge in Eindhoven didn’t change their minds, though, and were convinced there would be no ‘mutiny’ from Veerman. They believe the risk of Veerman downing tools is low, looking at his flawless performance against Telstar last weekend as an example.
He’s made it clear before that a PSV player with a contract is a PSV player and so you won’t get annoying performances or anything disappointing from him.
While others believe that it’s quite remarkable PSV didn’t let him go, those in charge are seemingly glad that they didn’t, despite Brentford’s interest leading to plenty of tension on deadline day.
