Jadon Sancho has hit a roadblock in his career, and Aston Villa have offered him a possible lifeline to get back to his old self. He sees this loan as an opportunity to assist the Villans and achieve personal targets, discussing what goals he has in mind for the next nine months with VillaTV.
‘We have to be achieving big things’
It has been a poor start to the new season for the Villans. An Ezri Konsa red card left the team down to ten men at home to Newcastle United, and the inferior outfit in a 0-0 draw on opening matchday.
Then came a 1-0 loss away to Brentford, and a 3-0 defeat to Crystal Palace at Villa Park. Only **Wolves**have a worse record than Sancho’s new side, who have lost a fixture in front of their fans for the first time since a 2-0 defeat to **Arsenal**on 24 August 2024. Pressure is piling on a camp with high expectations.
Sancho shared his intentions for his loan and a full focus on the targets of the team this campaign.
“We have to be achieving big things. We have to be looking towards that, and hopefully, I can help the team to achieve those goals. The team comes first, so whenever the manager needs me, I’ll be ready.”
The 25-year-old was once a rising star of the global game. At Borussia Dortmund, he hit double-digit goals and assists year after year in the Bundesliga, earning himself a £73 million move to Man United.
His time at Old Trafford and on a year-long loan at **Chelsea**have not replicated that excellence on English soil. A part of him will be eager to get back to those heights and prove that he can do the business in the Premier League. But buying into the identity of the team will help him achieve much more.
“I’ve got individual goals, but my main goal is for the team. Achieving something as a team is much more special than individually. I feel like all players have individual goals, but the team always comes first.”
