Seven-figure fee could be a huge part of why Leeds United failed to sign £5M star

This past week will be one to forget for Leeds United fans. With all the excitement and expectations going into Monday’s deadline, the result was underwhelming for everyone.

Daniel Farke had been publicly pushing for the club to get reinforcements in attack, but Leeds failed to sign one player since Noah Okafor joined the club. What will frustrate fans even more was the two failed moves in the space of days before the window shut.

It has not been disclosed as to why Buonanotte turned down Leeds to join Chelsea, but the loan fee could have played a part.

Jon Newsome believes money was the ultimate factor in deal

Former Leeds star Jon Newsome also thinks that the money played a huge part in Facundo Buonanotte choosing Chelsea over Leeds.

“Logistics, does he want to move up to Leeds? Can he still stay with his family in London, wherever he is, the south coast. There’s two ways of thinking about it – are you going to play every week at Chelsea?

“Very unlikely. Are you going to play every week at Leeds? That is why you would be signed. If you go to Chelsea, if you only play 15 games, does it put two or three years more on your career?” Newsome said.

“It depends on the agent too, if the agent is getting a bigger fee to go to Chelsea, there are agents who would send him to Chelsea because they’d get more money,”
