Leeds United are ‘working hard’ on major transfer even after deadline

Leeds United have done a good job recruiting players for the squad this summer. But it seems like they did an even better job when it comes to player exits.

It took a while for the deals to start moving, but the club have managed to offload a lot of unwanted players before the deadline. Daniel Farke made it clear to a lot of players in the team that they would not be in Leeds’ plans for this season.

Illan Meslier has been one player that seemingly has been linked everywhere but is still at the club. He was considered by the likes of Leicester City earlier in the summer, but the Foxes signed a new keeper to replace Mads Hermansen. Then, later in the transfer window, European clubs came knocking. Paris Saint-Germain eyed a move for the stopper if their second choice keeper left, but it never materialized.

Como were very keen on a move but decided against signing Meslier. The player’s camp were said to only be looking to move if the Frenchman would be made first choice. In the final days of the window, Lorient and Valencia were serious contenders. The La Liga side were in talks over a deal on Monday before the window shut.

But it seems like that is not the end for the 25-year old, according to Graeme Bailey, Leeds are looking at options for the keeper. Red Bull have also stepped in with their network to accelerate the process:

“I think there are definitely a few options for Meslier still. Turkey? Absolutely, yes, they are one of those.

“However, I’m also told Leeds hierarchy and Red Bull higher ups are using their connections and looking for destinations for him — and his people are also working hard.

“The likes of Austria, Belgium, Greece, Poland, Saudi Arabia, and UAE — there are still options for him, if he has the appetite for it.”

England’s transfer window is officially closed, but Meslier can still move to these countries before their respective windows are over.
