A breathless, relentless transfer window finally closed on Monday. It was chaos, particularly in the Premier League, with numerous clubs spending extortionate sums across the summer.
Fourteen clubs spent over £100 million throughout the window, according to Squawka. This ever-competitive league generates spending figures like no other, and prominent footballing names have joined the league over the last few months.
There were twice a breaking of the British transfer record (by the same club!) and a series of hijacks and transfer steals as top clubs competed for the same player. Many players threw their toys out of the pram; the good guys had mixed fortunes in getting their moves.
To finally close the book on transfer talk, it appears a decent time to rank the top ten signings made by Premier League sides this window. Warning: You will probably disagree.
Naturally, many were worried about the Eagles when Eberechi Eze was offloaded to North London. The pure attacking talent the club once had when Eze and Michael Olise were operating in the team had disappeared.
That worry might still exist, but the signing of Yeremy Pino from Villarreal is a mark of exactly what the club has done successfully years. Pino can develop into the star player in South London, and already has European pedigree with a Europa League trophy at 22 years old.
Pino can guide the Eagles through a bizarre season in which the club is seemingly transitioning and playing European football in the Conference League. True, he will be inconsistent, but this signing will be a handy replacement for Eze for the present and future.
9. Adrien Truffert -> AFC Bournemouth (£11.4m)
A large theme of this summer transfer window was the big-name Premier League clubs poaching the best players from the mid-table clubs, and that theme carries in the first two players of this top 10.
Bournemouth lost Hungarian left back Milos Kerkez to Champions Liverpool early in the window, but their replacement in Truffert looks like the type of business that has made the Cherries a stable top-flight side.
Kerkez was one of the division's best in his position, but Truffert has brought his years of experience playing for Stade Rennes to England already, showing impressive displays in his debut at Anfield and in the last game against Spurs. Also, at that fee, it is an impressive coup.
8. Jack Grealish -> Everton (One-year loan)
It so suits Grealish to be playing at Everton. A club he can be the main man, a set of fans who absolutely adore him, and a place where he can finally enjoy his football again.
Perhaps with the hindsight of his flying start to this season (four assists in 197 minutes), he should be higher on this list, but in the interests of balance, he sits in eighth.
A straight loan puts this one down too, but Everton have won massively in this transfer window with Grealish as their crown jewel. Both he and the club are looking to rise after difficult seasons, and it just works.
7. Florentino Luis -> Burnley (Loan, £20.8m buy option)
Ok, you can stop looking so puzzled. Burnley are a club looking to survive in the Premier League after promotion last season, which must be said, is not easy whatsoever.
Their method under Scott Parker is far more methodical compared to what Vincent Kompany deployed in their last stint in the division, and Florentino Luis is exactly the signing that can help the Clarets stay up.
The Portuguese defensive midfielder has played 111 times for Benfica since 2019, and has had loan spells at Monaco and Getafe.
The 26-year-old has bundles of experience and is a great tackler, similar in profile to Joao Palhinha. With a buy option, this is a perfect signing in newly-promoted terms.
6. Granit Xhaka -> Sunderland (£13m)
True, it did say 'perfect signing in newly-promoted terms' seconds ago, but Granit Xhaka's move is perfecter. The 'listen, fair play' of footballing transfers.
Xhaka had a bizarre career at Arsenal, perhaps overhated by the fanbase at points while being scapegoated, but definitely underwhelming at times during the most painful moments of the club's recent history.
His stint in Leverkusen was hugely successful, and a move to Sunderland means different targets for the 32-year-old, but a survival season is very much possible with his experience and know-how. A superb signing.
After a woeful attacking season for the Red Devils, they needed someone with a proven track record goals-wise. Picking up the fourth top scorer in the league last season is a rare bit of smart business from Manchester United.
Mbeumo has had years of great goalscoring at Brentford and is a huge upgrade on Rasmus Hojlund, who appeared allergic to the back of the net throughout last season.
The fee is slightly extortionate, but if Mbeumo continues his numbers in Manchester, that £71 million will quickly be forgotten.
After missing out on Morgan Gibbs-White to Evangelos Marinakis, Eberechi Eze to Arsenal and Savinho to Manchester City's board, Spurs needed a win in this window.
Xavi Simons was exactly that. The 22-year-old is an exciting attacking player with all the flair and ability to excite the fans in N17, and at the fee, it is a superb deal.
Arguably, Simons is a signing that suits Spurs more than Eze, who the club is close to signing. The Lilywhites are in transition under Thomas Frank, and the Dutch attacking player adds to the exciting group of youth the club already has.
3. Estevao -> Chelsea (£49m)
Though agreed initially in 2024, Estevao completed his move to Chelsea this summer, and his potential looks frightening.
A classic winger, full of pace and tricky dribbling, he can grow quickly under the guidance of Enzo Maresca and the buckets of talent already at Chelsea.
The Brazilian was playing for Palmeiras before joining the Blues and has plenty of professional football experience at a high level. At only 18, Estevao can become one of the world's best. It may not be now, but soon enough, this signing will show its worth.
The ex-Crystal Palace attacker owes Kai Havertz dinner at the least. Close to joining North London rivals Spurs, Eze always wanted to return to the club he and his family have supported their whole life.
That wish was granted after a Havertz injury sprang Arsenal into the market for another attacker, and Eze signed quickly. Surprisingly this move was not made earlier, but it is a great addition to Mikel Arteta's side.
Eze adds depths of Premier League quality to Arsenal's side on the left, and this could be the signing that guides the Gunners to the title that has alluded them for multiple seasons.
The boring choice, some might say, but it is a statement signing from the Champions. The top scorer in the league after Mohammed Salah, and arguably the best player in the Premier League outside the Egyptian last season.
Many will not like how Isak handled his summer move, acting like a petulant child and with reports of deliberately playing worse at the end of last season, many will put down this transfer.
Irrelevant of that, this move is huge for Liverpool, who were only really short of a world-class striker in their squad from last season.
It is easy to be even slightly lazy in the transfer window after winning the league, but the Reds have shown intent with this signing, which is at a fair fee. The signing of the window.
