Leroy Sane is thrilled about what Manchester City have done today

Manchester City cult heroes Ilkay Gundogan and Leroy Sane have been reunited at Galatasaray.

On Tuesday evening, Manchester City confirmed that Ilkay Gundogan has joined Galatasaray on a free transfer.

Talks between the various parties had been ongoing for several weeks, with Galatasaray pushing hard to bring Gundogan to Rams Park.

Now, with 10 days left until the Turkish transfer window closes, Galatasaray have got their man, and Leroy Sane is buzzing over the news.

Leroy Sane happy to be ‘back together’ alongside Ilkay Gundogan

Sane, who played for Manchester City between 2016 and 2020, joined Galatasaray on a free transfer in June this year.

Three months on, and he will be reunited with Gundogan, who played for City between 2016 and 2023 ahead of his spell in 2024/25.

“Welcome to @GalatasaraySK Abi,” Sane wrote to Gundogan on X. “Back together @IlkayGuendogan.”

The Germany winger included emojis of a lion, hearts in the colours of Galatasaray, and a handshake.

When Ilkay Gundogan and Leroy Sane are set for Manchester City reunion

Sane and Gundogan have been teammates for both club and country for a long time now.

They have played alongside one another 119 times so far, with the first occasion coming in November 2015 in an international friendly between Germany and France in Paris.

Gundogan has scored three goals set up by Sane, who in turn has scored one goal set up by the veteran midfielder.

Although Gundogan retired from international football last year, he will continue to play alongside Sane for the Turkish champions.

Furthermore, both Sane and Gundogan are set for a reunion with Man City early next year.

Galatasaray will head to the Etihad for a Champions League encounter scheduled for 28 January 2026.
