Man Utd ace demanded pay rise after coming back from summer holidays - Amorim wasn't happy at…

Manchester United star Andre Onana hasn't had the best spell during his time at Old Trafford, with the general consensus surrounding his time at the Red Devils being that it has been littered with costly errors and mistakes - and he's angered manager Ruben Amorim after reportedly asking for a new contract despite his poor performances.

Onana joined United from Inter Milan two years ago, having helped the Serie A side to the Champions League final in the 2022/23 campaign - and as a modern-day goalkeeper with distribution, fans were looking forward to what he could bring to the table in the sense that Ederson and Alisson had for Manchester City and Liverpool respectively.

It's fair to say that he hasn't quite impressed too much, with only a handful of solid appearances to look back on, with a whole catalogue of errors.

And with that in mind, the report by The Athletic reporter Laurie Whitwell states that Onana came back to Carrington this summer wanting to sign a new contract at the Red Devils. The Cameroonian believed that he has been deserving of one ever since receiving the standardised 25 percent wage cut for non-qualification to the Champions League well over a year ago, despite his poor performances in a United shirt as they finished eighth in the Premier League under Erik ten Hag.

And that stance did not go down well with Amorim, who has since signed Belgian goalkeeper Senne Lammens to come into the fold to challenge Onana for first-team minutes at the Theatre of Dreams for both the short and long-term.

Onana started and played the full ninety in every Champions League game for United in the 2023/24 campaign as they were shockingly knocked out in the group stages, and he was an ever-present in that campaign where they finished eighth, playing in all but one of their games in all competitions ahead of backup stopper Altay Bayindir.

However, he was dropped for two games in the Europa League this season in January, as well as being absent in four of their final seven Premier League games of the campaign, and he missed four of United's domestic cup ties - showing a slight shift of the guard under Amorim.

Onana was also linked with moves away in the summer to the Saudi Pro League, though a deal hasn't materialised and now Lammens will look to battle him for that starting spot between the sticks.
