Which ex-Man United teammate played role in Sancho's Aston Villa switch?

Jadon Sancho has revealed that a chat with ex-Manchester United teammate Marcus Rashford played a role in his move to Aston Villa.

Sancho spent last season on loan at Aston Villa, where he scored five goals and provided 10 assists in 41 competitive appearances.

Chelsea had an obligation to buy Sancho at the end of last season, but they decided to pay a penalty fee to send him back to Man United.

As a result, the former Borussia Dortmund winger has spent the summer searching for a new club ahead of the recent transfer deadline.

Roma were said to be on the verge of signing the 25-year-old, who ultimately decided to turn down the chance to join the Italian side.

Sancho reveals Rashford Villa chat

As it proved, Sancho went on to complete a deadline day move to Aston Villa,**joining on a loan deal**until the end of the 2025-26 season.

Following his move, Sancho revealed that a conversation with Rashford played a role in his decision to join Unai Emery's side.

“I spoke to him while he was here last season, and I know he really enjoyed it," Sancho told Villa TV.

“He said so many lovely things about the club, like how it’s a family and you feel that friendly environment with great players and staff. I definitely felt that as I came in.”

Rashford spent the second half of last season on loan at Villa, scoring four goals and providing six assists in 17 competitive appearances.

Those performances helped the 27-year-old secure a move to La Liga champions Barcelona on a season-long loan deal.

What role did Emery play in Sancho's move?

Sancho also explained how a conversation with Emery was another key factor in convincing him to join the Villans before the transfer window slammed shut on Monday.

“First of all, when I spoke to the manager, he gave me belief and confidence,” Sancho said. “He showed me the plan for this year, and it really inspired me. He definitely persuaded me, and I can’t wait to work under him.

“Wherever the manager needs me, I’ll be happy to play. I have individual goals, of course, but my main priority is the team."

Sancho will hope that the move to Aston Villa can help rediscover the form he showed at Borussia Dortmund as he looks to get his career back on track.

The Englishman could make his debut when Aston Villa return to action after the international break with an away game against Everton on September 13.
