Two Man United loanees announce themselves with debut goals in dramatic fashion

Manchester United loanees Ethan Ennis and Jack Moorhouse impressed for Fleetwood Town and Leyton Orient, respectively, in the Football League Trophy on Tuesday evening.

Ennis scored his first senior goal to help Fleetwood force their clash with Accrington Stanley to penalties, where they triumphed 5-4. Accrington had taken a two-goal lead before Pete Wild’s side fought back into the game.

James Norwood pulled one back with a low, driven strike across goal before the end of the first half, and Ennis completed the comeback in the 75th minute. The English forward quickly converted after Jordan Davies’ header was parried away.

Despite missing his spot kick, the 20-year-old impressed on his debut for the League Two side.

The United academy graduate significantly impacted the attack, recording two key passes and creating one big chance. He also contributed defensively, winning five of the nine aerial duels he contested.

Wild was impressed with the youngster’s display, describing his performance as ‘really pleasing’ and calling him a ‘top player’.

Ennis will now be aiming to build on his debut impact in Fleetwood’s upcoming fixtures.

Likewise, Moorhouse also scored his first senior goal in the colours of Leyton Orient in their 3-1 win at Peterborough United.

Two minutes before the hour mark, he carried the ball forward from a central position and, after reaching the edge of the box, he curled the ball into the bottom left corner.

Moorhouse started the fixture as one of the two deep-lying midfielders in Richie Wellens’ 4-2-3-1 formation. He helped Leyton control the game even after they got reduced to 10 men, following Azeem Abdulah’s dismissal.

He recorded two key passes, misplaced just three of his passes and completed the three dribbles he attempted. He also won four of his six ground duels.

The promising midfielder has now made seven appearances for Leyton but has only started twice. He will hope to retain his place in the starting line-up for Saturday’s league clash at Port Vale.
