Manchester United and Manchester City were among the biggest spenders in the Premier League this summer

The transfer window is firmly shut with Manchester United and Manchester City getting plenty of business done.

Both clubs signed goalkeepers on deadline day and the two could make their debuts in the Manchester derby after the international break. United spent over £200m on new signings while City’s expenditure was around £175m.

Benjamin Sesko, Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha, Senne Lammens and Diego Leon have signed for the Red Devils while Alejandro Garnacho and Antony have left on permanent deals. Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho and Rasmus Holjund have left on loan - the latter contains a conditional obligation to buy.

Meanwhile, City did most of their business ahead of the Club World Cup. They signed Tijjani Reijnders, Rayan Ait-Nouri and Rayan Cherki while later deals were done for the likes of James Trafford and Gianluigi Donnarumma.

James McAtee, Yan Couto, Maximo Perrone and Ederson have departed on permanent deals while Manuel Akanji has joined Inter Milan on loan. While rivals Liverpool have spent more than any other club this summer, their net spend is still not the highest when comparing all the top-flight clubs.

Premier League clubs net spend for 2025 summer transfer window

According to transfer figures last updated on September 2nd by The Guardian, Arsenal ring in with the highest net send of the summer, despite spending £179 million less than Liverpool.

After splashing out on the likes of Noni Madueke, Viktor Gyokeres and Eberechi Eze, the Gunners made very little back through sales in comparison, putting them at the top of the table with a net spend £251.4 million.

Right at the bottom, with a negative net spend thanks to their sales outweighing their purchases, is Brighton and Hove Albion on -£68.15 million.

Here’s the full table, as put together by Squawka, and how the Manchester clubs compare against the rest of the league after a record window for the Premier League.
