Manchester United completed the signing of Matheus Cunha from Wolverhampton Wanderers earlier this summer.
They met the £62.5 million release clause in his contract at Molineux.Cunha was deployed in the number nine role in the 3-2 victory over Burnley on Saturday.
While chasing a long ball, he suffered a muscle injury and immediately signalled for medical assistance.
When he hit the ground, it was clear that he would not be able to play any part for the rest of the game.
The club are yet to officially provide an update but reliable insider Sully Talkz has provided good news to United supporters.
He revealed on X: “Understand Matheus Cunha’s injury isn’t as serious as first feared after initial scans but the extent or exact type of injury is not yet known.
“He added that the Brazilian did some “light upper body gym work yesterday” and the club have agreed for him to stay and continue his recovery at Carrington.
The 26-year-old also withdrew from the upcoming international games for Brazil after being named in the squad by head coach Carlo Ancelotti.
Cunha has enjoyed a lovely start to his United career but is yet to score a goal in four games.
He was the most effective attacking player against Arsenal and hit the post at Fulham.
The Red Devils face Manchester City after the international break and manager Ruben Amorim will be hoping that Cunha is available to start the crucial clash.
He was expected to occupy the the left number 10 spot but Amorim has also used him as a centre-forward to allow Benjamin Sesko to get used to the team’s playing patterns.
Cunha is crucial to United’s attack and the fans will hope that he can make a swift recovery.
