“I spoke with Bayern”–Player on leaving Manchester United this summer

Bayern Munich made an attempt to sign Antony before he left Manchester United for Real Betis.

The winger impressed during his loan spell with the La Liga earlier this year. They wanted to sign him again on loan in the summer window, but the Red Devils wanted a sale.

Manchester United were able to get what they want as Real Betis paid €25m for 50% of his rights to sign him on deadline day.

The Brazil international was a guest on Cope’s El Partidazo de Cope, discussing a few topics, including Bayern Munich’s approach.

According to Cope, Bayern Munich offered him a salary double than what he’s currently earning at Real Betis.

The 25-year-old has refused to confirm the exact figure but has explained why he turned down an opportunity to join Bayern Munich. He also revealed several other unnamed clubs wanted to sign him.

“I spoke with Bayern, I don’t know if it was €7m, but I said I had Betis’s word and that it was 95% certain and that I would respect my word. I feel comfortable making this decision because I’m very happy here. More than five teams called me,” he said.

Antony was made clear he was no future at Manchester United, after he returned from his loan spell in the summer.

The former Ajax man reveals last 40 days have been difficult but is now thrilled to have completed a permanent move to Real Betis.

“Today will mark my life; it was very emotional, and I’ve never experienced that before,” Antony explained.

“My family is very happy; it’s very hard to be away from them, and it’s been very hard being alone in the hotel for more than 40 days. My wife was waiting in Seville, and I told her my first choice was Betis.

“I was very moved seeing the affection of the Betis fans; I couldn’t get out of the car, so I ran out. It was a very nice party.”
