Man United have thoughts to go after surprise option of Chelsea midfielder in January transfer window.
Chelsea midfielder Romeo Lavia on Man United wishlist
Man Utd may be ready to turn to the search for midfield reinforcements in January. Journalist Miguel Delaney claims that **Chelsea**‘s Romeo Lavia has emerged as a top option for the Red Devils.
Head coach Ruben Amorim had a frustrating end to the summer transfer window. The board at Man Utd wanted to bring in a midfielder, but were unable to do so.
The Old Trafford club had been in talks to sign Carlos Baleba from Brighton. But, those talks fell apart the and Ruben Amorim ended up with no extra midfield option for his side.
On transfer deadline day, Man United’s one big signing was goalkeeper Senne Lammens. He was signed from Royal Antwerp for €21m.
Amorim’s side were unable to change their situation with any of their current keepers. So, they felt going into the transfer deadline a keeper came first, and that was the only priority.
Red Devils still searching for a new playmaker
However, midfield remains a key priority. Amorim has publicly stated his intent to add to the midfield. Delaney stated in his Inside Football newsletter, that initial talks are starting to turn towards January in the background.
Lavia, who moved from Southampton to Chelsea in 2023, is still a player that clubs drive interest in, despite an injury-riddled start to life at Stamford Bridge.
Brighton’s Baleba remains very much in the mix. But, a move for Lavia would be a huge move by the Red Devils. That is especially given Chelsea would be unlikely to want to strengthen a direct competitor.
Author’s Opinion:
Much will depend on how the Lavia’s season goes in West London. But, his name is one that is definitely in the mix as Man Utd work out their next steps.
