Transfer review: Are Bournemouth better or worse off after window slams shut?

In an extraordinarily transitional summer, Bournemouth have sold key players, raking in over €200,000,000 in player sales along with spending over half of that on replacements and general additions.

The recruitment team had a vast job on their hands, so what business did they end up doing?

All transfer sums according to Transfermarkt

Bafodé Diakité - €35,000,000

Bafodé Diakité was **Bournemouth**’s most expensive signing this summer, even placing second in the all-time priciest arrivals for the Cherries.

Signing from LOSC Lille, Diakité has been one of **Ligue 1**’s most promising young defenders in recent seasons.

Well experienced at 24, the former Toulouse academy player has made a fast start to life under Andoni Iraola.

It has taken him a few games to get up to speed, but all sings point towards this being a signing everyone will look back on as an outstanding replacement for Illia Zabarnyi.

Djordje Petrovic - €28,900,000

It was always going to be a tough ask for Bournemouth to replace Kepa, the Spaniard became a fan favourite on the south coast and many Cherries fans wanted a permanent deal to be struck.

However, the lure of a move back to London proved too appealing.

Instead, fellow Chelsea goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic was recruited.

With two clean sheets in his first three [**Premier League](https://www.vavel.com/en/football/2025/08/16/bournemouth/1230569-andoni-iraola-salutes-forward-who-created-a-lot-of-problems-aftersuffering-racial-abuse.html)**appearances this season, the price may seem steep for a player with only one real standout season, but nevertheless it is an astute signing.

Ben Gannon Doak - €23,200,000

Now, there is plenty of information to suggest that Ben Gannon Doak’s move to Bournemouth may have been tied in with **Milos Kerkez**’s Merseyside switch, however, objectively on paper Bournemouth paid over 20 million euros for Gannon Doak.

The 19-year-old Scotsman had a tough debut against Brentford in the Carabao Cup, however, when given more time to get used to Iraola’s style of play then a better judgement can be made on this singing.

Amine Adli - €21,000,000

Amine Adli made a terrific first impression on debut against Wolves.

His off the ball traits will bring a lot to the club as seen in his first few appearances.

Having been part of **Bayer Leverkusen**’s significant success under Xabi Alonso, the Moroccan brings a strong pedigree to the Vitality Stadium.

Veljko Milosavljevic - €15,000,000

The most recent of Bournemouth summer recruitment, and the best kept secret all window.

Signing 18-year-old Veljko Milosavljevic for a straight fee of €15,000,000 could turn out to be a masterstroke.

It is yet to be seen how Iraola intends to utilise the Serbian wonderkid.

With nearly 30 senior appearances, some coming in Champions League qualifiers, Milosavljevic is one to keep an eye on given the Cherries’ track record with nurturing young talent.

Adrien Truffert - €13,500,000

Perhaps the standout recruit from the now-closed window.

Adrien Truffert has big shoes to fill when it comes to replacing Milos Kerkez.

However, there are murmurings amongst the Bournemouth fanbase that they might even have upgraded in recruiting the 23-year-old former Rennes captain.

Considering Truffert is the cheapest permanent signing of the summer, he has made a significant impact so far.

Alex Jimenez - Loan with €19,000,000 permanent option

The only loan singing of the summer, Alex Jimenez made a late switch from AC Milan.

There is a permanent option in the contract, reports suggesting the triggering factor being around 18 games or 50% of games played.

The headline of Bournemouth’s window in the eyes of the mainstream media has undoubtedly been the outgoings.

Very early on in the summer window Bournemouth lost four key members of their defence that impressed last season, with four sales from this summer earning a spot in their top six departures.

Along with this, Simon Francis and Tiago Pinto were also able to offload some big earners and peripheral squad players.

Outgoings

All transfer sums according to Transfermarkt

Illia Zabarnyi - €63,000,000

Illia Zabarnyi’s big-money switch to current Champions League holders Paris Saint Germain earns him the second spot in Bournemouth’s list of record departures, marginally behind Dominic Solanke. Over the course of the two and a half years spent at the cub, the Ukrainian made over 80 appearances and won fans over instantly with his physicality and composure at the back.

Dean Huijsen - €62,500,000

Perhaps the player who Bournemouth could have gotten the most money for this summer, **Dean Huijsen**’s release clause hampered any attempt by Bournemouth to make Huijsen one of the most expensive central defenders in history. Despite playing just 32 games for the Cherries in the Premier League, Real Madrid had seen enough to make the then teenage sensation a Galactico.

Milos Kerkez - €46,900,000

Milos Kerkez’s transfer to Liverpool seemed inevitable for quite a while, cryptic social media posts and a clear desire to leave, Bournemouth cashed in on the Hungarian after a stellar season, earning him a place in the PFA team of the year. While the likes of Marc Cucurella and Lucas Hernandez still hold higher spots in the list of most expensive left-backs of all-time, Bournemouth have done extremely well to replace Kerkez, signing Adrien Truffert for around €30,000,000 less than what they sold the now Liverpool full-back for.

Dango Ouattara - €42,800,000

Dango Ouattara is officialy Brentford’s record signing after leaving for the west London club. This meaning the Cherries essentially doubled their money on the Burkina Faso international. While the decision to sell to a direct Premier League rival in Brentford did seems illogical, the momey amassed as a result allowed for proper replacements to be found in Amine Adli and Ben Gannon-Doak.

Jaidon Anthony - €9,500,000

Jaidon Anthony’s loan spell at Scott Parker’s Burnely was made permanent upon the Claret’s promotion to the top flight. A good fee claimed for the 25-year-old who Bournemouth signed as an academy player, bringing an end to his estimated decade at the club.

Philip Billing - €5,000,000

One of Bournemouth’s longest serving players in the squad prior to his departure, **Philip Billing**’s €5,000,000 switch back to his homeland calls time on a six year stay which saw the former Napoli loanee make over 200 appearances.

Mark Travers - €4,600,000

Mark Travers’ only real success in his time at Bournemouth came in the second tier, an outstanding 2021/22 campaign saw the Irishman keep 20 clean sheets. However, the four-time capped international consistently struggled to retain a consistent starting spot since promotion back to the Premier League. In a rather confusing move, Travers joined Everton, where he is now the backup for England’s first choice goalkeeper Jordan Pickford.

Luis Sinisterra – €2,000,000 loan fee obligation could rise to around €11,500,000

Luis Sinisterra’s time at Bournemouth will be remembered for a few things. A stunner against Fulham, the last minute winner against Everton, and injuries. The Colombian has missed nearly 40 games since initially joining on loan from Leeds United in 2023. In similar fashion, his loan move to Cruzeiro looks set to eventually be made permanent as well.

Chris Mepham - €1,150,000

After an excellent loan spell at Sunderland, Chris Mepham was initially out of contract this summer, however Bournemouth triggered the extension clause in his contract, meaning any departure this summer would be a permanent one. In actuality the fee the Cherries got was nominal anyway, Championship side West Brom have secured a bargain as a result.

Joe Rothwell - €460,000

Joe Rothwell reunited with Russel Martin this summer, Martin signed Rothwell on loan for his former employers Southampton in the 2023/24 season. Bournemouth brought the former Manchester United academy player to the Vitality Stadium on a free transfer from Blackburn, so the small fee they did receive is an added bonus.

Neto – Free

Neto was a top earner at Bournemouth, joining on a free transfer from Barcelona in 2022, those non-fee-paying deals tend to come with a larger wage package. Therefore, allowing the Brazilian to depart back to South America for no transfer fee has in fact saved the club significant outlay on his wages. The former Juventus, Valencia and Fiorentina shot-stopper kept 13 clean sheets across 61 appearances under three separate managers.

Daniel Jebbison – loan

Daniel Jebbison’s loan move to Preston North End got off to a flying start as the former Sheffield United talent impressed in a pre-seaosn friendly against Liverpool. However, an injury sustained whilst working with a personal fitness coach has put a slight dampener on his start with the Championship club.

Max Aarons – loan

A lot of Bournemouth fans have been surprised with the lack of game time Max Aarons earned over the course of his time at Bournemouth so far. Whilst many will point to injuries, the former Norwich star has only missed 15 games for the Cherries. He will be hoping to gain some much needed minutes over the course of his temporary stay at Rangers, which has not gotten off the best of starts with **Russel Martin**’s side currently seventh in the Scottish Premiership and crashed out of the Champions League qualifiers.

Alex Paulsen – loan

One of the most surprising moves of the window, Alex Paulsen has been sent on a season-long loan to Polish side Lechia Gdansk. They are bottom of the Ekstraklasa having been deducted five points following a failure to meet financial requirements on debt repayments. After two promising seasons in Oceania for Wellington Phoenix and Auckland FC in the A-League, this will be an interesting test for the New Zealand international.

Hamed Traore – loan – obligation €7,500,000

Hamed Traore did impress over preseason, which is why a few eyebrows were raised when Bournemouth’s hierarchy sanctioned at loan with an obligatory purchase at the end of it. Traore was excellent while playing for Auxerre last season and had multiple suitors around Europe. Still just 25, Traore has every chance of succeeding on the continental stage. However, he did not fit the style of football Iraola wants to play, therefore taking a loss on the initial approximate €25,000,000 fee paid to sign the Ivorian from Sassuolo in 2023 was the most logical option. The Cherries also have a significant sell-on clause as part of this loan-to-permanent move to France.

Ben Winterburn – loan

Ben Winteburn is one of the few academy players to break into the first team under Andoni Iraola. The midfielder has had previous loan spells at Weymouth and Totton in non-league, now he will get some football league minutes under his belt at newly promoted Barnet. Bournemouth rejected loan offers from other clubs based on playing-time opportunities.

Success or failure?

A lot was made of the high-profile players that Bournemouth sold. However, the replacements they have been able to secure seem suitable and up to the challenge. Truffert for Kerkez, Diakité for Zabarnyi, Petrovic for Kepa, Adli for Ouattara, Gannon-Doak for Sinisterra along with general strong squad additions in Jimenez and Milosavljevic. Of course only time will tell as to how well these players perform in their time on the south coast. However, there are multiple signings that fans of the club can be excited about both for the present and the future.
