Newcastle United massively overspent on Yoane Wissa, summing up their desperation to bring in a striker.
With Alexander Isak joining Liverpool on transfer deadline day, it was vital that Newcastle United replaced him.
Fortunately for Eddie Howe, they did just that. Yoane Wissa joined Newcastle from Brentford, bringing an end to another lengthy transfer saga.
However, the Magpies did have to pay more than they hoped for the 29-year-old. Wissa cost Newcastle £55million, having initially offered just £30million.
Newcastle spent more than they wanted to on Wissa, but that is slightly balanced out by the deal they pulled off for Jacob Ramsey.

How much Aston Villa initially wanted for Jacob Ramsey
Newcastle made six senior signings this summer, with Ramsey the fourth player to arrive at St James’ Park after Anthony Elanga, Aaron Ramsdale and Malick Thiaw.
The 24-year-old is arguably the Magpies’ most exciting signing, with Ramsey costing £43million from Aston Villa.
That represents good business, especially as it is less than what Unai Emery’s side wanted for the midfielder.

However, they lowered their valuation, which allowed Newcastle to swoop in. The Magpies paid an initial £39million for Ramsey, plus a further £4million in add-ons.

Newcastle United spent more money than ever during the 2025 summer transfer window.
The Magpies splashed out more than £200million on new players, with their total outlay reaching £260million. That includes potential add-ons plus the £4million loan fee for Aaron Ramsdale.

Nick Woltemade £69m
Anthony Elanga £55m
Yoane Wissa £55m
Jacob Ramsey £43m
Malick Thiaw £34m

Nick Woltemade was the biggest arrival, costing £69million in total. He is Newcastle’s new record signing, eclipsing the £63million deal to sign Alexander Isak in 2022.
Speaking of Isak, his mega money move to Liverpool has seriously helped Newcastle’s net spend for the 2025 summer transfer window.
Liverpool paid £125million for Isak, while there were also decent fees received for the likes of Sean Longstaff and Lloyd Kelly.
Including add-ons, Newcastle have received around £163million from player sales. That gives them a net spend of £96million, which represents really good business.
