It took him a while. But after getting released by the Jacksonville Jaguars in free agency, wide receiver Gabe Davis has latched onto a new team just before the start of the regular season.
Adam Schefter of ESPN just reported that Davis will be joining the Buffalo Bills after spending his first four NFL seasons with them. There's a caveat, though. He won't be signed to the active roster but rather the practice squad. In the offseason, he visited the Pittsburgh Steelers but didn't reach a deal, seemingly because he was still recovering from injury.
Based on the latest update, it looks like the Fernandina Beach, Florida native is healthy enough to help the Bills.

The Jaguars won't be missing Gabe Davis anytime soon
The Buffalo Bills seemingly need help at receiver after losing Amari Cooper in free agency. However, they didn't make any major moves at the position in the offseason. At the time, general manager Brandon Beane expressed confidence in the group they had, led by Khalil Shakir, Keon Coleman, and Joshua Palmer.
Although Shakir dealt with an ankle sprain that forced him to miss time in training camp, he's good to go for the opener. The rest of the Buffalo wide receiver corps appears to be in good shape, which makes the Gabe Davis signing look like a depth move.
And that's the thing, Davis has been dealing with the meniscus injury dating back to the 2023 playoffs but hasn't truly had the chance to recover. When he signed a three-year deal worth $39 million with the Jaguars, he wasn't 100 percent, but instead of rehabbing his knee, he was pressed into action.
To nobody's surprise, the former UCF Knight only logged a measly 20 receptions for 239 yards with two touchdowns last year, and his season ended after just 10 games. Of course, the Jags deserve the bulk of the blame for not doing due diligence when signing him.
Think about it. Do you think Davis was going to reject a top-market deal? He wasn't just going to turn it down or ask the Jags for less money because he was hurt. He had an opportunity and took it.
The silver lining is that the new regime realized the mistake Trent Baalke made and cut bait with him despite the massive dead money cap incurred. Simply, there was no longer room for him with Travis Hunter, Brian Thomas Jr., Dyami Brown, and Parker Washington in the mix.
Now, Davis can continue rehabbing and getting back to full strength. Meanwhile, the Jaguars can focus on getting ready for the 2025 season.
