Viktor Gyokeres commented on his Sweden colleague Alexander Isak, after he moved to Liverpool on the deadline day of the summer transfer window.
Gyokeres congratulates Isak
**Arsenal**‘s new striker Viktor Gyokeres has been praised on social media for finally speaking out about teammate Alexander Isak. He talked about his national teammate’s late transfer to Liverpool on transfer deadline day for a record British fee.
Gyokeres said: “I haven’t spoken to him too much as he just came, so I said hello to him and congratulated him for the move, not much more.”
That transfer saga saw the Gunners striker say there isn’t much player power within football. This comes after Isak received some criticism for the way he made through the transfer.
Liverpool end their chase
Former Newcastle United favourite Isak was a long-time admirer at Liverpool. The Reds looked to strengthen their forward line under head coach Arne Slot. But, the move saw a plenty of issues throughout the deal. Initially, Isak was not permitted to train for the Magpies and missed out on the clubs pre-season tour of Asia. This was before Liverpool made the official bid of £110m at the beginning of August.
That was rejected, which led to a war of words between the two clubs. Isak released a bombshell statement and refused to play in any PL matches. This was despite Liverpool walking away from a deal. So, it only took Newcastle Utd backing down on transfer deadline day to see that complete the transfer at £130m.
Author’s Opinion:
Viktor Gyokeres’ national teammate came under a lot of criticism. The Arsenal man also had to navigate a £63.5m deal from Sporting to north London. So, he knows how Alexander Isak must be facing during these tough times. But, at the end, they both got what the asked for.
