Report: Tottenham could sign 'incredible' star in January after deadline day talks, he wants to …

Tottenham could resume their pursuit of Manchester City winger Savinho in January after failing to sign the Brazilian during the summer transfer window, journalist Graeme Bailey has claimed.

The North London side targeted the 21-year-old forward as a late reinforcement to Thomas Frank’s attacking options but saw their efforts snubbed by Man City, who refused to sell.

Savinho’s departure would likely have forced Pep Guardiola into the market for a late replacement, and the Spaniard was reportedly against the idea of the Brazilian leaving in the closing stages of the market.

Tottenham were reportedly ready to break their £65m transfer record to bring Savinho to the club and even held talks on deadline day in the hope of resurrecting a deal.

The Lilywhites were said to have been prepared to pay £69m for Savinho, which would have surpassed the club-record fee for Dominic Solanke’s arrival from Bournemouth for £65m last summer.

According to Bailey, Tottenham could return to Savinho when the market reopens in January, having been so eager to sign him from Man City last month.

The Brazilian international was also believed to be keen on the move to North London and had been pushing to make the deal happen amid City’s firm stance.

Spurs were targeting Savinho as a replacement for former captain Son Heung-min, who departed for MLS side Los Angeles FC after spending 10 years at the club.

The final week of the summer transfer window saw Spurs sign Xavi Simons from RB Leipzig instead, with the attacking midfielder joining for a reported £51.8m, and Randal Kolo Muani from Paris Saint-Germain, who arrived on loan.

The Lilywhites also splashed out heavily on Mohammed Kudus’s arrival from West Ham earlier in the summer, while Joao Palhinha joined on loan from Bayern Munich.

Spurs struck permanent deals for both Kevin Danso and Mathys Tel and welcomed two promising defenders, Kota Takai and Luka Vuskovic.

Savinho has missed the start of the 2025/26 campaign after picking up an injury in pre-season and is expected to return after the international break.

The ‘incredible’ Brazil international, who joined Man City from French side Troyes last summer, is under contract until June 2029.
