Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana and Ruben Amorim still have a 'good relationship', according to Fabrizio Romano, writing in his exclusive GIVEMESPORT newsletter.
It's been a difficult period of Onana at Old Trafford, with the Cameroonian goalkeeper struggling to cement his place as United's long-term starting goalkeeper. Altay Bayindir has worked his way into the side of late, but both goalkeepers have struggled to perform at a top level, resulting in United searching the transfer market for a new option between the sticks.
Senne Lammens arrived through the door on deadline day, joining the Manchester club from Belgian side Royal Antwerp. It's unclear whether the 23-year-old goalkeeper will come straight in as their number one, but Amorim now has plenty of options. Bayindir, Onana, and Lammens will all be competing for the goalkeeper position, with Tom Heaton also in the mix.
Fabrizio Romano: Onana Relationship With Amorim at Man Utd
Andre Onana in action for Manchester United
Writing in his exclusive GIVEMESPORT newsletter, Romano has confirmed that United goalkeeper Onana still has a good relationship with Amorim. The respected reporter claims that Amorim is very clear with his messaging that whoever wants to play must perform at the best level, not just for Onana but for all of his players.
"Still a good relationship. Amorim is very clear, who wants to play must perform at the best level. It's for Onana and for all the others."
Onana and Bayindir remained at Old Trafford following the end of the summer transfer window in England, so as it stands, it's unclear who is going to be the starting goalkeeper this season. Interestingly, the Turkish window, where Bayindir is from, so there's a chance him or Onana could head through the exit door.
Amorim now has a big decision to make as to who starts between the sticks for the Manchester club. Lammens is a highly-rated young goalkeeper, but he has no experience playing in the Premier League, unlike Onana and Bayindir. United need to get their season going after a disappointing start to the campaign.
Despite beating Burnley at the weekend, they left it incredibly late, while their performance the week previous against Fulham wasn't impressive. In their opening Premier League game of the season, the Red Devils lost at home to Arsenal, before being knocked out of the Carabao Cup by League Two Grimsby Town.
