The Sverre Nypan Middlesbrough moment Rob Edwards 'loved'

SVERRE Nypan's talent and ability is not in doubt.

Here is a young player who has been described as a "generational talent", who made his senior professional debut when he was just 15 and who signed for Manchester City for £12m this summer.

It should come as no surprise, then, that the youngster has quickly impressed his new teammates and the coaching staff at Rockliffe.

And he made a big impact on the pitch on Saturday when he came off the bench at half-time and played a part in the match-winning moment against Sheffield United which saw Boro extend their perfect start to four games.

For boss Rob Edwards, though, the Nypan moment he loved more than any other was not the pass to Matt Targett in the build-up to Tommy Conway's goal or the link-up between midfield and attack or the many classy touches.

It was something else.

"I thought Sverre was really good," said Edwards afterwards.

"My most pleasing part, other than the goal, was Sverre blocking one in the 18-yard box and then celebrating with a chest pump with Callum Brittain.

"That’s an 18-year-old lad who is quite a flairy player. But to then be celebrating blocks…he’s got used to England already. I love that!"

Nypan is currently away with Norway's Under-21s, who play against Denmark and Slovenia in the next week, but the 18-year-old will be in contention to make his first start at Preston after the international break.

His fellow countryman and former Middlesbrough striker Jan Age Fjortoft was delighted to see the teenager move to the Riverside, and says Boro deserve immense credit for being trusted by Manchester City with one of their potential stars of the future.

"To have that relationship and imagine of being able to develop players, that is the key to being able to take the next step," Fjortoft told BBC Tees.

"Absolutely that is credit to the work that is being done at Middlesbrough.

"I want Sverre to do well but I also know if Sverre does well, Middlesbrough do well.

"I'd like to see Middlesbrough back where they should be in the Premier League. Of course I want to see him doing all he can to get Middlesbrough back at the top. I know if he's done well, Middlesbrough are on a good path."
