The walls that once stood between PlayStation and Xbox are slowly coming down. Not only are Xbox games being ported to PS5, but you can now play the PlayStation published Helldivers 2 on Xbox Series X|S, and judging by where the game is sitting among Xbox's best sellers, it's a day many of you have been waiting for a very long time.
VGT Gaming News shared a screenshot of Xbox's best sellers, revealing that Helldivers 2 is not only the best-selling game on the platform, but it currently occupies two of the top three spots on the Xbox store. That's because the standard edition of Helldivers 2 is number one, and its Super Citizen edition is number three, with only the newly released NBA 2K26 separating them.
Helldivers 2 Is Selling So Well On Xbox That It's Two Of The Top Three Games On The Platform Right Now

There are some caveats, but none of them make Helldivers selling this well on Xbox any less impressive. First of all, these are only paid games, so games like Fortnite and Marvel Rivals aren't included since they're free-to-play. It's also notable that Gears of War: Reloaded isn't among the best sellers despite launching on the same day, although I'm guessing most people playing the remaster on Xbox are doing so through Game Pass.
Most of the chatter this year when it comes to console exclusives being ported elsewhere has revolved around Xbox games arriving on PS5, Gears Reloaded being one of those games. However, seeing Helldivers 2 perform this strongly might have PlayStation thinking about its own exclusives.
While Xbox games launching on PS5 is almost inevitable moving forward - Halo is pretty much the only domino left to fall, and it kind of already has via Halo content in Helldivers - it's not a foregone conclusion that PlayStation exclusives will be going back the other way. Helldivers 2 is the first big one to make the leap, and it's a different situation from what are considered to be PlayStation's flagship series.
Helldivers studio Arrowhead is better described as being a second-party studio rather than a first-party one. Its games are PlayStation exclusives, but not in the same way as games like The Last of Us and next month's Ghost of Yotei. That said, if there's a lot of money to be made, perhaps Helldivers' early Xbox success is indicative of a future where games like Astro Bot and God of War are playable on consoles that aren't made by PlayStation one day.
