Weird 2025 Vikings predictions headlined by a reversal of heartbreaking misses

Looking back on it, last season was definitely a bit weird for the Minnesota Vikings.

Sam Darnold turned his NFL career around by helping lead the Vikings to a 14-win season out of nowhere, Andrew Van Ginkel shattered expectations and emerged as one of Minnesota's biggest additions of the 2024 offseason, and the Vikings finished the 2024 campaign with a loss to the Los Angeles Rams in a wild-card game that wasn't played in Los Angeles or Minnesota.

Weird happenings in the NFL are typically a yearly occurrence, especially for the Vikings. So what sort of weird things might Minnesota find itself in the middle of during the 2025 season?

Minnesota Vikings Weird Predictions for 2025

1. Andrew Van Ginkel will lead the Vikings in interceptions in 2025

As a follow-up to his impressive 2024 season, Van Ginkel will continue his success with the Vikings in 2025 by coming up with more interceptions than any other player on the roster.

Last season, Van Ginkel snagged two picks and returned both of them for Minnesota touchdowns. However, he also almost got his hands on a few more that could have easily jumped his total to four or five interceptions in 2024.

So, for the 2025 campaign, those almosts will turn into actual picks, and he will become the first non-defensive back to lead the Vikings in interceptions during a single season since Anthony Barr back in 2021.

2. Brian O'Neill will catch a passing touchdown

Ben Johnson seems to get all the attention in the NFL these days for coming up with out-of-the-box play ideas on the offensive side of the ball, but Minnesota head coach Kevin O'Connell has a bag of his tricks in his back pocket, too.

With an effort to increase the Vikings' conversion rate inside the red zone this season (19th in the NFL in 2024), expect O'Connell to get more creative with his play-calling when the team is near the goal line.

Before developing into one of the best right tackles in the NFL, Brian O'Neill actually began his college career at the University of Pittsburgh as a tight end. With this in mind, O'Connell will use O'Neill's previous experience as a tight end to his advantage at one point this season, and it will result in Minnesota adding six more points to its side of the scoreboard.

3. A last-second field goal will lead the Vikings to their first Super Bowl win

That's right. The franchise that has been on the receiving end of numerous heartbreaking field-goal misses by their own kickers will finally get one to land in their favor.

Trailing by two points with under one minute left in regulation, Vikings quarterback J.J. McCarthy will lead the offense down the field to set up a 55-yard field-goal attempt for Minnesota kicker Will Reichard with two seconds left on the game clock.

After a timeout is called in an effort to try and ice Reichard, the Vikings' cold-blooded kicker nails the 55-yard try with plenty of room to spare as time expires, and a monsoon of purple and gold confetti erupts as Minnesota's entire sideline rushes the field to celebrate the team's improbable Super Bowl victory.
