CLEVELAND, OHIO (TheOBR.com) - Good morning, Cleveland Browns fans!
First, please let me apologize for missing Tuesday's Newswire. As much as I would like to say that there was some noble cause for it, say, a deep investigation into NFL-related skullduggery or some such that had me undercover, it was actually pure stupidity, as usual. I took too much of a particular medication and got knocked on my butt for 36 hours.
I'm feeling more-or-less human today, so let's get into it.
SOMETHING WE ALREADY KNEW ABOUT MYLES GARRETT
This guy gives opposing coaches absolute nightmares. Ignore the media hype about T.J. Watt and others; it's Garrett who, according to a recent poll of 30 NFL coaches and execs, was the one they are worried about, drawing 17 of the 30 votes. One head coach said, "Your whole game plan is centered around one guy. It's a (expletive deleted) nightmare."
But this year, Garrett has more friends to help in Mason Graham and emerging edge rushers in Alex Wright and Isaiah McGuire on the other side. While I'm concerned about the thinness at some other defensive positions, that defensive line is going to be scary.

JABRILL PEPPERS MAKES HIS CASE
I've been a little obsessed with the availability of veteran safety Jabrill Peppers, who is a still-effective 29-year-old player who could potentially help the Browns as they develop youngsters at the position. Granted, some veteran safety signings have burned the Browns in recent years, and Peppers' scary suspension last year wouldn't be a good look for a team already plagued by significant off-field issues. But, heck, I'm nervous about the Browns' secondary depth, and Peppers has experience in a wide variety of different schemes, claiming he can be effective anywhere he goes.
ANOTHER FIFTEEN MINUTES FOR JOHNNY MANZIEL
I guess I'm as guilty as anyone for extending Johnny Manziel's long stay in the media eye, mostly because I'm amazed that any respectable media person wants to talk to him after his quick fall into NFL irrelevancy, and I generally feel compelled to comment on it. But there he is showing up in Pro Football Talk, and putting himself on my radar again. This time, he's spewing bitterness about the Browns and hoping they go "0-16" each season, apparently because that 17th game just doesn't matter. Ultimately, Manziel comes back around to his failure being "on me", which it certainly is. Keep doing that bail money gesture, pal.
QUINSHON IS NFL TO STAY (if he ever gets here)
An element of covering the NFL every day is the sheer number of stories that emerge (and then are aggregated) out of whole cloth. One of those was the recent notion that Quinshon Judkins might decide to return to college ball after being selected as a high second-round draft pick by the Browns. There were never any indications from Judkins or his camp that this was in play; it simply emerged because someone figured out that it was a possibility. Well, turns out there's nothing to it, and Judkins is not going to mess with his high-draft-pick good fortune by returning to college.
Have a good one! GO BROWNS!

The Browns escape being number one in this Bleacher Report listicle of bad trades only because NBA trades were included. They even get props for ripping off the Colts for a first-round pick for Trent Richardson.
Pierre Strong has been cut from the Injured Reserve. I highly doubt this has any tie to the status of Quinshon Judkins.
And I thought Stephen A. Smith, Colin Cowherd, etc, were bad. You ain't seen nothin' yet.
The NFL's tendrils are now into another media provider.

Will AI create more jobs than it replaces? - (bigthink.com)
"A study by the Brookings Institution predicts that by 2030, AI could displace between 1.3 million and 2.3 million jobs in the United States, but it could also create between 1.4 million and 2.4 million new jobs."
Every new technology, from television to Walkmen to video games to smartphones, has been disparaged as wrecking the world before its true impact was understood. I have some fleeting hope that AI will join that list.
