Manchester City’s Jérémy Doku is currently with Belgium, preparing for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Liechtenstein and Kazakhstan.
The winger has reunited with his compatriot and former Manchester City star, Kevin De Bruyne.
De Bruyne spent 10 years at Manchester City before leaving them as a free agent for Napoli this summer. Doku says it’s strange for him to reunite with the 34-year-old, after being teammates for two seasons, and [Het Nieuwsblad](https://www.nieuwsblad.be/sport/voetbal/het-is-raar-om-kevin-terug-te-zien-jeremy-doku-bij-de-rode-duivels-herenigd-met-de-bruyne/87564551.html) have relayed his comments.
_“It’s strange to see Kevin again. I used to see him every day at Man City. Only, he’ll be my opponent when we face Napoli in the Champions League. That will probably lead to a series of teasing moments,”_ he said.
Doku went on to explain he isn’t currently in his best shape, and that’s partly down to not having a long enough break this season or a thorough enough pre-season.
The Citizens’ season was extended until July as they took part in the FIFA Club World Cup. Their last tie of the tournament was against Al-Hilal on July 1st, and they [returned to pre-season](https://www.mancity.com/news/mens/manchester-city-pre-season-dates-63889035) training on July 28th.
Manchester City started this season with a 4-0 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers, but that was followed by back-to-back league defeats against Tottenham Hotspur and Brighton & Hove Albion.
The Belgium international believes the Premier League club haven’t had a good enough pre-season period.
_“I’m not the best version of myself yet. For us players, good pre-season simply doesn’t exist anymore. We get three weeks off and have to be ready again. It takes time to get back on track as a team,”_ Doku explained.
_“Our coach, Pep Guardiola, is still as passionate as ever and is working even harder to turn things around quickly. Pep isn’t just sitting there for no reason. It’s good that I can get some oxygen here with the national team.”_
