Bryan Mbeumo sends one-word message to Yoane Wissa after Newcastle move

Manchester United forward Bryan Mbeumo was pleased to see former Brentford teammate Yoane Wissa get his big move to Newcastle United.

Mbeumo was strongly linked with Newcastle United too but eventually joined Manchester United from the Bees.

Wissa has signed for Newcastle for £55million, joining Eddie Howe’s side on the final day of a dramatic transfer window.

At Brentford, Mbeumo and Wissa formed a deadly partnership. In 108 games together, the forwards linked up for 17 goals.

Both players have been rewarded for some fine form in west London with big moves this summer, and Mbeumo was pleased for his former teammate.

Bryan Mbeumo tells Yoane Wissa to enjoy Newcastle move

After the news that Wissa had joined Newcastle was confirmed, the club posted a video on social media platform Instagram.

The video showed Wissa getting the club’s iconic number 9 shirt, with the player talking of his pride in having been awarded it.

That particular squad number holds significant weight on Tyneside. Callum Wilson was the last incumbent, but the legendary Alan Shearer, Jackie Milburn, Hughie Gallacher and Malcolm Macdonald have previously worn it too.

Mbeumo responded to the video by commenting: “Enjoy.”

Former Newcastle forward Ivan Toney – who also played with Wissa at Brentford – responded with love heart emojis.

The shock former Newcastle player who spoke to Yoane Wissa

Upon signing for the club, Wissa revealed he had spoken to former Newcastle defender Chancel Mbemba about a move to the club.

The two have played together for DR Congo and Mbemba, who left St James’ Park in 2018, appears to have recommended the club to his compatriot.

“I spoke as well with Chancel Mbemba, who has been here,” said Wissa.

“He wanted to make it happen because he really enjoyed it here.”

That was a blast from the past but goes to show just how small the footballing world can be at times.

Hopefully, Wissa can link up with fellow new arrival Nick Woltemade at least half as well as he did with Mbeumo.
