On deadline day, Manchester United saw a few players leave Old Trafford and this includes Rasmus Højlund, who joined Napoli on a loan deal with an [obligation to buy](https://sscnapoli.it/en/sscn-ufficiale-lingaggio-di-hojlund/).
The move will see the striker return to Italy, two years after leaving Atalanta for the Red Devils.
Højlund was with La Dea during the 2022/23 season, scoring 10 times and registering four assists from 34 games. This, coupled with his potential, convinced Manchester United to sign him in 2023.
The Denmark international wasn’t able to showcase his qualities for the Premier League club. He managed 26 goals and six assists from 95 games of which four goals were from the league last season.
Denmark manager Brian Riemer is delighted with the 22-year-old’s decision to return to Serie A, and [Tipsbladet](https://www.tipsbladet.dk/nyhed/landshold/brian-riemer-jubler-over-rasmus-hoejlund) have relayed his comments.
He explained why Højlund took the right step and has backed the frontman to succeed in Italy.
_“I think Rasmus Højlund’s move to Italian football is an exciting choice. That’s where he had his big international breakthrough, and now he has the opportunity to return to something that worked,”_ he said.
_“I expect him to reach the level he showed when he was last in Serie A. He is moving to do something different than where he comes from. I look forward to following him, because it is an interesting choice.”_
According to the national team manager, the former Atalanta man’s experience of playing in Italy, pace, physicality and other qualities should help him succeed at Napoli.
_“There are many arrows that point to him being a good fit for Serie A. If you look at the league’s playing style, it has always suited the type of player Rasmus is. That’s a good start. And he has already shown that he can score goals in that league,”_ Riemer explained.
There’s also another reason why the manager is pleased that Højlund has left Manchester United for Napoli.
_“He has shown that he can perform in those surroundings, and he comes to a well-functioning club, and that is also crucial for me,”_ he added.
