Benjamin Sesko can grab bragging rights against £125m star this week, Man Utd would love it

Benjamin Sesko hasn’t been let loose by Ruben Amorim on English football, but he’s about to get the chance to win huge bragging rights against the flavour of the month this week.

All of Benjamin Sesko’s appearances in the league have come off the bench, and his only start against Grimsby was as close to a “Welcome to English football” as a game could be.

Even though he’s yet to score, Sesko has shown glimpses of special potential, which has left the Man Utd fans excited.

Coincidentally, he can become a big fan favourite not for what he could do after the international, but for what he has the chance to do during it.

Benjamin Sesko up against Alexander Isak

The recently concluded summer transfer window had a running theme of big-money strikers changing clubs, and the biggest stories might be Benjamin Sesko and Alexander Isak.

Sesko joined from RB Leipzig by rejecting Newcastle in a twisty saga, while Isak left Newcastle in brutal circumstances for a British record fee of £125m.

Add to that the players joining Man Utd and Liverpool, respectively, and it just adds another dynamic to English football’s biggest rivalry.

Granted, Sesko and Isak are at different points in their careers, and United aren’t really fighting against Liverpool as it stands, but the Slovenian will have the opportunity to land a punch at Isak soon.

Sesko’s Slovenia faces Isak’s Sweden in World Cup qualifiers this week, on September 5, and all eyes will undoubtedly be on how the two spearheads fare for their respective teams.

Sesko generally shines for Slovenia in a talismanic role, so he could bring that confidence back to Old Trafford, while the opportunity to grab bragging rights against his Liverpool role is a tantalising one as well.

Man Utd will hope Sesko matches Isak’s success

Isak is three years older than Sesko and has proven himself in the Premier League, so United will hope they have signed a player who can replicate that path.

Isak also arrived as an unproven youngster, but took a remarkable leap at Newcastle United when he put together his physical tools.

Sesko’s physical tools are special, too, and when he gets used to the pace and physicality of the league, he will be one to watch.

The hope will be that he grows with the team and becomes the 25-year-old spearhead of the team that contends for the title in 2028.

It would be the realisation of Ineos’ “Project 2028” dream, and it aligns perfectly with their new signings being young or reaching their peak soon.

If Sesko vs Isak is a genuine rivalry at a level playing field at that point in time, United will be extremely happy about their investment.
