Just in: Barcelona full-back will be out for three weeks following training injury

Just moments ago, FC Barcelona officially confirmed that key defender Alejandro Balde had suffered a hamstring injury.

The 21-year-old left-back picked up the injury during the training session earlier today, which comes as a big blow for the Blaugrana.

Balde to be out for three weeks

While the statement from the club did not hint at a recovery timeline for Balde, journalist Helena Condis has come forward with a major update on the matter and it is not good news.

Even though Barça specified that the youngster’s injury was ‘minor’ in their statement, as per the update, he is now expected to be out of action for three weeks.

This comes as a concerning development for the Catalans, considering that the Spanish defender is a very important part of Hansi Flick’s plans.

Matches Balde could miss

Thankfully, nearly two weeks of the three-week absence will be spent in the international break, meaning Balde might not miss many matches.

As things stand, the 21-year-old could be ruled out of the La Liga game against Valencia right after the international break, while he might be unavailable for the UEFA Champions League opening game vs Newcastle United as well.

The subsequent La Liga game vs Getafe could also be touch and go, with a return likely to take place on the trip to Real Oviedo on the weekend of 24 September.

In his absence, Flick will count on Gerard Martin, who was finally registered in La Liga before the Rayo Vallecano clash, while young Jofre Torrents is also an option.
