Emi Martinez’s situation is “not ideal” says former Argentina international Sergio Goycochea.
Martinez is currently on international duty as Argentina prepare for a World Cup qualifier against Venezuela on Friday.
And former goalkeeper Goycochea has addressed Martinez’s situation at club level with Aston Villa after the late summer transfer window drama involving Manchester United.
Martinez was linked with a late transfer to United before the summer transfer window closed.
Villa boss Unai Emery admitted the World Cup winner’s future was uncertain after he was left out of the Villa squad for their Premier League defeat to Crystal Palace on Sunday - just 24 hours before the transfer window closed.
Emery was asked about Martinez’s future during his post-match interviews, and he said: "It is one thing we have to fix.
"Tomorrow the window is finishing and we are expecting something to improve our squad. Keep calm.
"One of the circumstances is Emi Martinez, we will see tomorrow and then we try get the balance and work after the break."
Martinez ultimately ended up staying at Villa Park as Manchester United signed Belgian goalkeeper Sennes Lammens from Royal Antwerp on transfer deadline day.
And, speaking to TNT Argentina, Goycochea said: "It's not the ideal situation to be living in 10 months before the World Cup.
"He's proven himself. His emergence, his journey, as he himself put it, his mental strength, and the professional support he's had - it's all positive.
"He's a guy with a lot of personality, and all that stuff he puts to his advantage in a lot of situations that make a difference. We'll have to see how it plays out for him right now. That's the only thing that scares me."
