Opinion: Liverpool’s Alexander Isak makes another decision that will wind up Newcastle fans

Newcastle United fans are going to have to wait a bit longer to hear Alexander Isak answer questions on his controversial move to Liverpool.

It was announced on transfer deadline day that Isak has joined Liverpool for £125million, ending his three-year stay at St James’ Park.

Since the move was confirmed, Isak has explained why he chose Liverpool during an interview with their in-house media team. He did not mention Newcastle at all.

Isak also sent a message to Newcastle United, thanking the club and the fans for his time on Tyneside. However, there was no apology for his actions.

Understandably, Toon fans are eager to hear more from the 25-year-old. There is a desire to see him face the media and answer questions on the way he managed to force through a move from Newcastle United to Liverpool.

However, that will not be happening this week.

Alexander Isak turns down chance to answer Newcastle United questions

After completing his move to Liverpool, Isak is on international duty with Sweden ahead of their World Cup qualifiers.

The striker is back training with teammates, having spent pre-season away from the Newcastle United squad.

Given everything that has happened this summer and the fact he is Sweden’s main man, there is a clamour for him to speak to the media while on international duty. However, that will not be happening.

According to Swedish outlet Fotbollskanalen, Isak has chosen not to speak to the media ahead of his country’s game against Slovenia on Friday.

On Isak not facing the media, Sweden’s press officer Petra Thoren said: “Alexander will not do any media ahead of the match against Slovenia. We are in dialogue with Alexander on this issue. But given the circumstances of his arrival late on Monday, with the World Cup qualifiers just around the corner, he wants to focus on preparations and getting started properly and preparing for the matches.”

Two other Swedish players could answer questions for Newcastle United fans

While Isak will not address the media before Sweden face Slovenia on Friday, there are two other players who Newcastle United fans would like to hear from.

Emil Krafth and Anthony Elanga are also in the Sweden squad, and it will be interesting to know their thoughts on their fellow countryman’s conduct over the summer.

It must be strange for Elanga, who only just joined Newcastle and was looking forward to playing alongside Isak in black and white. Alas, he never got that opportunity.

In truth, anything that Elanga or Krafth say about Isak while away on international duty is likely to be very professional.

They face Slovenia in their opening World Cup qualifier away from home on Friday night, before taking on Kosovo on Monday.
