MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - On this day in history, on September 3, 1974, NBA legend Oscar Robertson retired after a remarkable career.
He scored more than 26,000 points, nearly 10,000 assists, and more than 7,800 rebounds in just over a thousand games.
The “Big O” went on to be enshrined in the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.
Today, his name lives on through the Oscar Robertson Trophy - awarded each year in college basketball, with several Memphis Tigers among its past winners.
