Heading into their season opener against the Philadelphia Eagles Thursday, the defense is going to be a major talking point for the Dallas Cowboys. While there was one notable departure last week, it appears they'll also be getting some reinforcements.
When it comes to the Cowboys' defense, Micah Parsons has been viewed as the focal point. However, Dallas has another high-level talent on that side of the ball, but injuries have left him limited in recent seasons. Ahead of the 2025 campaign, that doesn't seem like it will be the case anymore.
With Parsons being traded to the Green Bay Packers in a stunning blockbuster, the Cowboys are going to need all the help they can get on defense. A little over 24 hours before they take the field, one insider provided a promising injury update on one of their key players.
While discussing the Cowboys' matchup with the Eagles on Good Morning Football, Tom Pelissero provided the latest on All-Pro cornerback Trevon Diggs.
"Trevon Diggs the Cowboys cornerback also listed as a full participant in practice on Tuesday," Pelissero said. "And my understanding is Diggs is expected to play in this game on Thursday night. That is unbelievable because back in December, Diggs underwent knee surgery...I know they are going to be careful with him, but barring some type of setback, Trevon Diggs will play on Thursday night."
Things have moved quickly for Diggs ahead of Thursday's season opener. On August 24th, the Cowboys announced that the star cornerback was taken off the PUP list and moved to the active roster. Now, all signs point towards him being on the field against the defending champs.
Diggs will likely be limited to some sort of snap count against the Eagles, but such a number has not been revealed yet.
Having Diggs back in any capacity is huge for the Cowboys. When healthy, he has proven to be one of the NFL's top players in the secondary. More importantly, Dallas is going to need all the help it can get on the outside. Facing off against the duo of AJ Brown and DeVonta Smith, the Cowboys' cornerbacks are going to have their work cut out for them.
After playing in just 13 games over the last two seasons, Diggs will attempt to get a healthy campaign under his belt starting on Thursday.
