Italy / Schedule
Early in the fourth quarter, Niang went up for a rebound and landed awkwardly on Spain’s Josep Puerto’s foot, immediately clutching his right ankle.
He attempted to play through the pain but eventually had to sit on the bench, where he was seen icing his ankle.
As Italy prepares to wrap up the group stage on Thursday against Cyprus, the Italian Basketball Federation released an injury update on their rising star.
Niang will miss the upcoming game against Cyprus, but the good news is that he avoided any serious injury and is expected to be available for the knockout stages.
Despite the setback, Niang finished the previous game with a double-double, recording 10 points and 10 rebounds.
With the 67-63 victory, Italy improves to 3-1 in Group C, strengthening their position as one of the group’s favorites.
Italy still has a chance to finish first in Group C if they defeat Cyprus tomorrow and Greece loses to Spain in their final group-stage match.
